This is an out and back walk of about 3.5Km in total. It takes you to the new White Hide overlooking Amwell Quarry Nature Reserve from where, among other things, bittern may be seen. The hide is spacious and at a high level which can be accessed along ramp with an 8% (1:12) gradient. The path to and from the hide is level, firm and even.The start of the route is in St Margarets at Ordnance Survey Grid Reference TL9381118

The tow path can also be reached down a  less steep ramp on the other side of the road.

Good views across Great Hardmead Lake  and over the reed beds are available from the windows which are set at different levels to meet all needs. Movable benches and space for wheelchair users make the hide very accessible.

The upper level of the hide gives views over the reed bed and the water areas near at hand. The two-level hide at the start of the board walk can be seen across the reed beds.

The quickest back to St Margaret's is to return along way you came.

An alternative route back to the towpath is available over the bridge near tthe end of the boardwalk and he two storey  hide. It starts with a ramp steeper than 10% (1:10) but has no severe gradients after that.

On leaving the bridge care should be taken at the top of the stepped ramp to the tow path. The path ahead leads back to the tow path and bridge by the view point.

As you reach the tow path from the path  shown on the left, turn right to head back to St Margaret's where you started.

You will pass under the bridge you walked over to reach the hides.
