Route Filmstrip & Description

The walk around Loch an Eilein is about 5.5Km providing excellent views of the loch, its island castle and the surrounding forest. The path is at its best on the first part of the walk along the northern shore. On the far side the surface is more uneven and less stable in places and there are steeper and more frequent gradients. The car park is at Ordnance Survey Grid Reference NH897084. Signs will direct you to the visitor centre and the trail. The trail is about 3 miles long (5 kilometre). There are no big hills to climb but there are many undulations at least one of which has a gradient as steep as 20% (1:5).
