Welcome to Phototrails

Phototrails is the home of a new and expanding database of trails throughout the UK.

Phototrails is here to help everyone discover and enjoy access to the countryside, tailored to their own needs and preferences. This website aims to help all lovers of the countryside to find locations where they can enjoy the enormous benefits of recreation in the great outdoors.

Fieldfare staff and volunteers explore the length and breadth of the country to bring you an up-to-date guide to the accessibility of countryside sites and trails.

Phototrails was developed by the Fieldfare Trust to provide you with more information, and therefore more choice, about where to spend your day out in the countryside. As a charity that actively promotes countryside access for people with disabilities, Fieldfare understands the importance of providing “pre-visit” information on trail features and site amenities, such as whether disabled parking and accessible toilets are available.

Each walk is described through a slideshow of photographs, providing information which lets you see just what the walk is like. They include information on the surrounding environment, the walk distance and the features and highlights that you will find along the way. We’ve also taken great care to accurately describe path gradients, widths and surfaces against the physical accessibility standards endorsed by Fieldfare and partners of the Countryside for All project. Each trail is given an accessibility rating to help you decide whether a trail meets your needs and, providing an opportunity for Phototrail users to comment on those ratings to help the future choices of other trail users .

When navigating your way around our featured trails, please note that photos have been taken in the direction of travel and from the perspective of the photographer’s height. Do also take into consideration the weather and season when planning your visit, as the condition of countryside trails can deteriorate during the winter months.

You can search for walks near to where you live or, you can plan routes that you might do while visiting friends or taking a holiday.

NEWS FLASH !! – You can also now post your own favourite trails up on the site – just go to www.phototrails.org.uk/surveyor – log in and follow the instructions.

Individuals are able to upload up to 5 of their own favourite trails without any charge being incurred however, these must not be for an organisation for whom they work or volunteer. Accepting and agreeing to these terms is a condition of progressing to registering as a Phototrails Surveyor. If any individual wishes to upload more than 5 trails then contacting us to explain the circumstances may make this possible
